Kick Starting it with Josh Lanyon

The Dangerous Ground Reboot

~ KICK START ~

When the time came to begin work on the 5th book in the Dangerous Ground series, I had to give some thought as to where the next four books would be headed. The first stories were all about the struggle of moving from partners and best friends to lovers -- and juggling that new relationship with careers as federal agents. But as much as I enjoyed exploring the various angles and complications, I know most readers want to see progress. Most readers prefer to read about grown ups, and grown ups work stuff out, so I knew it was time to resolve some issues -- yet at the same time kick things up a notch for Will Brandt and Taylor MacAllister.

At the end of Dead Run there are some momentous changes in Will and Taylor’s personal and professional lives. Those changes will inevitably have serious ramifications for them, and those ramifications would create believable conflict in any relationship, let alone one sometimes as delicately balanced as that of Will and Taylor. But the potential conflicts are new ones because Will and Taylor are in a whole new phase of their relationship.

But part of that phase is that they are growing more secure and comfortable with this new relationship, and Kick Start reflects that change. This is probably the lightest and most playful of the stories, and I think it provides a much needed breather given the various traumas of the past books. This one is for all the readers who pleaded that they wanted -- needed -- to see Will and Taylor happy in their coupledom.

So here you go, Gentle Readers. Enjoy. I will refrain from mentioning anything about the “lull before the storm.”

  2. I am looking forward to reading this book. Of course that means I have to do a re-read. Something I am really looking forward to, of course. I have not met a Josh Lanyon book that I have not liked, love, or re-read at random times! Of course with the audio books I can be doing dishes and enjoying the books too.

  7. Wow - 4 more books? I had no idea. That makes me very happy. I finished the book the other day and really enjoyed it. What I really liked is how Will and Taylor are dealing with the ups and downs of a total partnership, especially now that some of Will's 'chickens have come home to roost.' The book is light but not overly frothy, and is a perfect jumping off point to the next four books.

  11. Kick Start certainly continues on with the tradition of this captivating series. Loved the genuine, raw interaction between Will and Tay and between all of the characters. Josh has such a gift for conveying what we humans slough through to reach harmony with each other. Then of course there were all the threads of.. Is it him? Is it them? Who is he? Who done it? :-D Great ending, intriguing tease for the next stories (multiple, squee!) while wrapping this one up nicely.

  15. Loved the book, Josh. A good idea to give the boys a bit of a "break" but still giving them a few tings to worry about - $$, who is following them and why??!! And Will's Dad was perfect.

  16. I’m half way through but loving it! I really like that the family is being brought into the relationship.

  17. Loved both of them. This is an excellent instalment. Didn't realise Will grew in a town between Deliverance (I spilled coffee laughing over this) and Twin Peaks...
